magazine Leading project: all that touches or could interest Geek!
Il convient de commencer par définir en gros ce qu’est un Geek :
Pour l’archétype qu’on lui attribue, Le Geek (+ d’info ici) est un passionné d’informatique et de haute technologie, mais on peut trouver d’autres styles de Geeks (voir définitions amusantes des styles de Geeks traitées par ce mag!) voire même des Geeks qui ne touchent pas ou peu à l’ordinateur. Le fait d’associer directement le Geek à l’informatique est donc un amalgame…dont j’ai profité pour créer Mag33k !
En effet, même s’il se veut à la portée des Geeks en tout genre, il est plutôt tourné vers les Geeks « informatiques ». [Ceux-ci ciblés directement par le titre, utilisant le langage « leet » consistant à remplacer les lettres par des chiffres, Mageek devient donc Mag33K, le « 33k » étant également une référence à un débit de transfert et à un type de vieux modem.]
Quand le phénomène Geek s’est généralisé on pouvait prononcer le mot de deux manières : soit [gi :K] soit [jik] la première a fini par prendre le pas sur la seconde mais le nom du magazine joue tout de même avec cette origines du mot, on peut ainsi également lire « magic »(en référence bien sur à l’univers Heroic-Fantasy qu’on associe aux Geeks et aux jeux de carte du même nom.)
Malgré son aspect extérieur s’adressant surtout aux Geeks le magazine vise également un public non-Geek, jeune, qui a souvent connaissances des intérêts et des codes de cette communauté.
Le discours se veut fortement teinté d’autodérision, utilisant massivement les clichés du monde Geek, et portant un regard à mi-chemin entre l’intérieur et l’extérieur de cet univers. Profitant de mon statut de « semi-Geek », ayant un pied plongé dans cette culture, j’ai voulu que le magazine porte ce point de vue « passerelle »! En effet certains titres se référent directement à la visibilité extérieure de la communauté (parfois péjorative mais toujours traitée avec humour) tandis que d’autres attireront seulement les intéressés.
Chaque numéro traite donc un sujet global relatif aux Geeks ou qui les intéresse, et se décline ensuite en plusieurs titres: de l’actualité réelle à la dernière blague de forum en date, en passant par un article plus drôle qu’utile…etc!
Le tout dans une g33k3ri3 moderne et dynamique !

It is advisable to start by defining what is Geek:
For the prototype that one allots to him, the Geek is an informatics and high technology’s fan, but we can find other styles of Geeks, and even of Geeks which does not touch computer. Indeed, even if it wants to be in range for any kind of Geeks, it’s rather turned towards “informatics” Geeks. [Those targeted directly by the title, using the language “leet” consisting in replacing the letters by numbers, Mageek becomes Mag33K, the “33k” being also a reference to a transfer’s flow and an old modem type.] When the Geek phenomenon spread, one could pronounce the word in two manners: that is to say [gi: K] or [jik] first ended up taking the step over the second but the name of the magazine plays all the same with this origins of the word, one can also read “magic” (in reference to the Heroic-Fantasy universe and the card decks of the same name.) In spite of its appearance addressing itself especially to Geeks, the magazine also aims a Geekless public, young, who’s often informed of the interests and the codes of this community. The speech wants to be strongly tinted by self-derision, using massively the stereotypes of the Geek world, and carrying a glance halfway between inside and outside of this universe. Benefitting from my “half-geek” statute, I wanted that the magazine carries this point of view “footbridge”! Indeed certain titles referent directly with the external visibility of the community (sometimes pejorative but always treated with humor) while others will attract only the pure geeks. Each magazine draft a global subject relating to Geeks or which interests them, and then declines in several titles: real topicality, with the last forum’s joke, while passing by an article funnier than useful… etc! The whole in a modern and dynamic g33k Cl@55!
